Innovation activities by industry in 2004-2006, % of enterprises

A total of 51 per cent of all enterprises had innovation activity in the period from 2004 to 2006. 33 per cent had product innovations, 36 per cent process innovations and 30 per cent innovation projects. 55 per cent of manufacturing enterprises had innovation activity and 18 per cent of them had all of these, that is, product and process innovations and innovation projects. In relative terms, all manufacturing industries considered, innovation activity was most plentiful in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products where 77 per cent of enterprises practised it.
47 per cent of all service enterprises had innovation activity and 13 per cent of them had innovations relating to goods or services, process innovations and projects aiming at innovations. Among the service industries, innovation activity was most widespread in technical testing and analysis, where 80 per cent of enterprises had had innovation activity in the period from 2004 to 2006.
